CVG Proforca’s forest plantations establishment and management program is developed in the plain areas in the South of Monagas and Anzoátegui States. Plantations cover about 2 million hectares, out of which about 410 thousand hectares are planted with the so called Caribbean pine (Pinus caribaea var Hondurensis), which is a provider of raw material for pulp, paper, saw timber and other products.
Massive and homogeneous plantations of a single species, which in addition is exotic, represents a disturbing factor in the natural environment since such plantation provokes changes in the formerly tree populated plains.
In order to analyze those changes, an Environmental Impact Research (EIA) was carried out in 1996 identifying potential positive and negative impacts of the project. The research findings oriented the environmental management of the enterprise.
Since 2002, Corporación Venezolana de Guayana (CVG), fulfilling one o its strategic orientation lines, establishes the Corporate Plan of Environmental Management for CVG and the enterprises under its direction. In such plan, the Environmental Management System (SGA), Constitutes a support tool favoring products certifying as a strategy of wood and byproducts global market.
On July 13 2002, CVG Proforca passed its Environmental Policy, which constitutes the public declaration of its principles and intentions related to its environmental acting and also becomes a reference framework for action. Such Policy establishes CVG Proforca’s environmental objectives and goals as follows:
