To point out the economic value of the forests, forest exploitation, which is part of Venezuelan agricultural production framework, is considered a sub sector of this area. It divides into two large branches:

  • Production for living, whose objective is to satisfy the direct needs of the population through the supply of vegetal charcoal or firewood.

  • Industrial production, whose objective is to exploit forests to satisfy industrial necessities.

The forest covered area in Venezuela embraces about the half of the national surface and four features of environmental protection are observed: national parks, forest reserves, forest plantations and natural monuments.

CVG Proforca’s action fits in the forest sub sector. Since more than 30 years ago, this enterprise is engaged in the task of making every time more beneficial the forest plantations within the Southeastern region of the country.

Most of the national production comes from State-held forests, including the so called “Forest Reserves” which occupy over one million hectares, that is, 12% of the national territory surface.

Besides that, the country counts on 30 million hectares of plains and other zones suitable for commercial purposes reforestations where rapid growth species that serve as raw material for the industry have been sown. An example, of that is the Caribbean pine 410 thousand plus hectares established by CVG Proforca.

The basic product in forest exploiting is wood, which is classified in Venezuela as soft, hard and fine. Other products with inferior economic importance are firewood and rubber.

  • Preservation rules established by the Government have considerably reduced the impact of noble woods. On the contrary, Caribbean pine plantations, with a very good adaptation to Venezuelan environment, have allowed the production of this variety to supply raw material to the national industry.

The region of Guayana is known for having big extensions of exploitable forests, ideal climate conditions for rapid vegetable growths and high wood profits. Those characteristics make the region’s forests an attractive business for investment in both up-stream and transforming sectors.
